No one's asked for awhile, which is okay. But the biggest pieces of the picture are set. Fielder/Pujohs are gone. Yanks didn't over-spend. The Astros still suck. So before spring training starts, lemme make a prediction of the 2012 MLB season. Tell me what you think. I'd love to hear opinions. This is assuming Bud's greediness aka the 2nd wildcard isn't in play this year. AL East: No team there impresses me this offseason. The Yanks upgraded their pitching so on that, I think NY will take it. AL Central: I kinda thought the Indians had a shot, after Victor tore his ACL. Add Fielder and now the Tigers can do it. They have the pitching and the bat to succeed. AL West: The Angels and Rangers are going to the postseason. Sadly, by ’14, Darvish will become “just another” player & Albert will age. For this year though, these 2 look like shoe-ins. NL East: Phillies simply have too much pitching for even a 90s-era Braves to battle wits with. NL Central: The Cards built themselves around Albert. With him and Tony Larussa gone, they’ll have a hard time stacking up to Cincinnati’s pitching (having good pitching is rare for the Reds, it seems). Add Votto’s bat, Phillips’ defense etc. and it’s almost a runaway Reds win. Brewers have some hope but not a lot. The Cubs, Pirates, and Astros have a dream. NL West: Admittedly, I dunno much about the NLW. But I’ve heard a thing or 2 about the Padres so I’ll vote that. This one, of course, isn’t an educated guess; it’s just a guess. NL Wildcard: I don’t believe the Marlins are a new team but their identity took a good hit. The Devil Rays were horrible. After they dropped the “Devil,” they left the cellar. A new stadium helps, too. But their early acquisitions are what get my vote. Let’s just hope Ozzie and Zambrano can coexist. Okay, now lemme hear your predictions :)... Read More »
